Patient connection plays key role in family nurse practitioner’s healthcare plan

Every patient has a story to tell.

And it’s those providers who are willing to take the time to listen who set themselves apart.

Ashe Women & Children’s Health certified family nurse practitioner Alicia Crane understands the importance of patient connection when it comes to preventive care.

“The moments that mean the most to me are when I can make a connection with a patient and am able to truly help them improve their health,” says Alicia, who often cares for several generations of the same family.

Alicia has been providing male and female primary care to patients of all ages at Ashe Women & Children’s Health since the clinic opened in 2022. Additionally, Alicia also treats patients at Oak Hill Academy throughout the school year. She is currently accepting new patients, both male and female, of all ages.

Alicia began her nursing career in 2006 after earning her Associate of Science in Nursing from Pensacola State College, in Pensacola, Fla. She went on to earn her Associate of Art in Pre-Nursing in 2009 from Pensacola State College and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2010 from the University of West Florida, in Pensacola, Fla.
She spent eight years working as a registered nurse at Baptist Hospital, in Pensacola, Fla., caring for obstetrical, gynecological and medical oncology patients. Alicia enjoyed working as a nurse, but she felt compelled to do more.

“I was unable to care for the patients the way I wanted to or felt they needed, and I hoped that by advancing my career, I would be able to do this,” Alicia says. “I enjoy getting to know my patients and connecting with them.”

Alicia earned her Master of Science in Nursing for Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner in 2012 from the University of South Alabama, in Mobile, Ala. Followed by a Post Master’s Certificate for Family Nurse Practitioner in 2020 from the University of Cincinnati, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Prior to joining the team at Ashe Women & Children’s Health in 2022, Alicia worked as a family nurse practitioner for Mountain Family Care Center where she treated patients of all ages.

When she's not busy working, Alicia enjoys spending time with her family, including her seven children and one grandchild, hiking, camping and being outdoors.
