Lab and Pharmacy Services

Lab Services

A team of pathologists, technologists, technicians and phlebotomists work to collect and analyze blood, urine and tissue samples for the purpose of diagnosing medical issues and assessing treatment progress. The lab at Ashe Memorial Hospital operates 24 hours a day so health concerns can be addressed quickly.

The lab also provides pre-employment and random drug screenings in Jefferson, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Pharmacy Services

When you receive medications as an inpatient at Ashe Memorial Hospital, our nurses and pharmacy team use technologically advanced computer equipment to ensure you are getting the right medication and in the right dosage. Your hospital bracelet is scanned each time you take a medicine. This tracks what has been administered, and guards against drug overdoses and dangerous interactions.

Ashe Memorial Hospital has two full-time pharmacists and three part-time pharmacists as well as three full-time technicians and one part-time technician.

In addition to inpatient pharmacy services, the department also does employee prescriptions and chemotherapy services. The pharmacists perform all dosing adjustments needed for medications due to renal dysfunction. They also do antibiotic stewardship, considered part of infectious disease management, and inpatient medication discharge counseling.

Ashe Memorial Hospital also serves as a clinical rotation site for both Campbell University and High Point University Schools of Pharmacy.
